What is KOReader?

KOReader is a free, open-source ebook reader application that runs alongside the original Kindle or Kobo software. You boot into it like a separate app, read your books, then exit back to the stock interface whenever you want. No data is lost. It is the same reader trusted by hardware reviewers and serious readers worldwide for its raw control over how the screen renders text and images.

Who is it for?

  • 📕 PDF readers — textbooks, manuals, scientific papers, scanned documents
  • 📗 EPUB / MOBI / CBZ / DJVU — anything not bought from Amazon/Kobo
  • 📙 Manga & comic readers — page-by-page navigation that actually works
  • 📘 Technical / academic readers who need fine-grained typography control
  • 🌐 Multilingual readers — built-in dictionaries (incl. Thai-English)

See the difference (PDF reflow)

A 6-inch Kindle screen is too small to read a typical A4 PDF — text shrinks to 2–3mm tall. KOReader can re-flow the PDF into readable, scrollable e-book text.

Side-by-side: same Kindle screen before vs. after KOReader install — text size and layout become readable.
Same page on the same Kindle: left = before KOReader (tiny text), right = after KOReader (larger text, reflowed lines).

What you actually get

  • PDF reflow — Re-renders A4/Letter PDFs into ebook-style flowing text. The single feature that makes a small Kindle viable for serious reading.
  • Reads everything — EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, PDF, DJVU, CBZ, CBR, FB2, TXT, RTF, HTML — no conversion needed.
  • Pick your own font — Drop any TTF/OTF font in. Set line-spacing, margins, hyphenation, and kerning per book.
  • Built-in dictionaries — Long-press any word for an instant definition. Thai-English and many other dictionaries are free to add.
  • Reading statistics — Tracks pages read, reading speed, time per book — useful if you want to know how much you actually read.
  • OPDS catalogue — Browse public-domain libraries (Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks) directly from the device. No cable.

Compatible devices

Works on every Kindle / Kobo / Tolino in the shop. Chinese-brand Kindle competitors are not supported by KOReader and we do not stock them.

  • Kindle — Most Kindle models from 2012 onwards (Touch / Paperwhite / Voyage / Oasis / Scribe). Requires jailbreak — included in our install.
  • Kobo — All Kobo models (Glo / Aura / Clara / Libra / Forma / Sage / Elipsa). No jailbreak needed — clean install.
  • Tolino — Tolino Vision / Epos / Shine series.

Reversible — if you decide you do not like it, uninstalling restores the device to factory state. The original Kindle/Kobo store, your purchases, and your library are untouched throughout.

How to add it to your order

  1. Pick any Kindle, Kobo, or Tolino on the shop and add it to your cart.
  2. Tick the "+ Add KOReader install (฿350)" box on the product page, or click "Add KOReader install" below.
  3. The ฿350 is added to your cart total — one payment covers both. I install KOReader on the device before shipping.
Browse e-readers → Or use the wizard

Note: this is an add-on — your cart must also contain a Kindle, Kobo, or Tolino.

Common questions

Will I lose my Kindle / Kobo store access?

No. KOReader installs alongside the original software. You boot back to the stock interface whenever you want — your purchases, library, and account are untouched.

Can it be uninstalled later?

Yes — fully reversible to factory state. On Kobo it is one settings toggle. On Kindle the jailbreak is also reversible by reflashing the original firmware.

Does it support Thai language?

Yes — Thai rendering, Thai-English dictionary, and Thai EPUBs all work. KOReader has better Thai handling than stock Kindle, which sometimes breaks word-wrap on Thai text.

Why does it cost ฿350?

Per-device installation work — Kindle requires a jailbreak procedure which takes ~30 min and depends on the firmware version. Kobo is faster (~10 min). The fee covers the manual time, dictionary install, default fonts, and a quick smoke-test on the device before shipping.
